RetroMuseum: About

What this is

RetroMuseum is a museum of operating systems you can boot in your browser. Each exhibit is a real operating system running in an emulated PC, with its story, its facts, and things to try.

Nothing is installed on your computer. When you press Boot it, the emulator starts in the page and downloads the exhibit's disk image as the system reads it.

Credits

Every exhibit runs in v86, an x86 PC emulator by the v86 contributors.

Small open-source exhibits boot on this site, from disk images it hosts. Each of their pages names the image's license and links to its source code, and the third-party notices list where each image came from.

The other exhibits open on copy.sh, the v86 project's own site, which hosts their disk images.

Licenses

  • RetroMuseum's own code: MIT.
  • v86: BSD-2-Clause.
  • SeaBIOS and SeaVGABIOS: GNU LGPL v3.
  • Each operating system keeps its own license. Copyrighted exhibits are shown for their history. They run on copy.sh, and RetroMuseum doesn't host or offer their disk images.

Asking for an exhibit to be removed
